Curbside Pickup

Wood Library is excited to offer patrons curbside pickup as an option to pick up requested items at the library.   When your requested items are ready, just pull into one of the designated spots in the parking lot and call the number listed.  Scroll to the bottom of this page for frequently asked questions.

If Wood Library does not own a title that you are looking for, our librarians will consider purchasing it. Request an item to be purchased by a librarian here. If an item is requested it is not guaranteed a librarian will purchase.

Is it safe to borrow library materials during the pandemic?

Working with approval from local health authorities and following guidance from the NYS Governor, we are taking all precautions to ensure that materials on our shelves and those that are returned to us are safe to be handled by members of the public.

How does curbside service work?

Wood Library is offering patrons curbside pickup as an option to pick up requested items at the library. Patrons park in the designated parking spots, call the provided library number, and reserved items will be delivered right to their cars by a library staff member. Patrons must have already been notified by the library that their items are available to take advantage of curbside pickup.

When does contactless curbside pickup begin and what will the hours be?

Hours are:

Monday-Thursday – 9:00am-6:00pm

Friday – 9:00am-6:00pm

Saturday – 10:00am-5:00pm

How do I place an order for contactless curbside pickup?

You have two options for requesting material using curbside pickup.

  1. Place a hold through the online catalog and you will be notified when your items are ready for pick-up.
  2. Request items over the phone at 585-394-1381 if you know what you’d like but need assistance. We’ll ensure we understand your needs and can locate items for you.
Do I need to bring my library card?

No  but please bring your ID to confirm your identity. We will check out your holds to you ahead of your arrival.

What if I have fines?

We are not charging fines at this time. If you have previous fines of more than $5 please call us at 585-394-1381 and we will work with you to find a solution.

How many items can I put on hold at one time?

Patrons can place up to 10 holds on their account.

(Includes suspended holds.)

How long can I borrow items?

Borrowing periods and renewals have not changed:

Books 3 weeks 2 renewals*

New Books 2 weeks 1 renewal*

Magazines 3 weeks 2 renewals*

Audiobooks 3 weeks 2 renewals*

Music CDs 3 weeks 2 renewals*

Single Disc DVDs 1 week 1 renewal*

Multi-Disc DVDs 3 weeks 1 renewal*

Video Games 1 week 1 renewal*

Wifi Hotspots 1 week no renewals

 

*Renewals are allowed as specified unless the item is reserved for another person (“on hold”) in which case, it cannot be renewed.  Automatic renewals are still in effect.

Can I send a friend, neighbor or family member to pick up my order for me?

Yes!  When a library staff person contacts you, please let us know if someone other than you will be picking up your materials.  Remember that the library cardholder to whom the items are checked out is responsible for the materials and will be charged for any loss or damage.

What if I don’t know what I want to borrow?

No problem! Our library staff are experts at selecting materials based on your preferences. Whether you are looking for picture books for the kids or engaging mysteries for yourself, we can help you find great content. Please call the library and speak to a librarian for assistance.

Can I return items to the library?

Yes! Our book drops are open 24/7 as well as our indoor book drop.

Can I apply for a library card?

During our period of closure, there are a few options to gain access to library materials.  New York State residents can apply for a New York Public Library card through the SimplyE app—and gain access to an array of digital resources, including e-books,audiobooks, databases, and more. You can also now apply for a library card online by clicking here. You will receive a physical library card in the mail to use to access downloadable ebooks and audiobooks and other online resources.  Visit the library with a photo ID and document with mailing address listed within six months of receiving your card, and you can then check out materials right from Wood Library too!

I need internet access. What can I do?

Public computers are available and our wifi is on!  Use our computers or bring your your own.  The wifi signal is stronger closer to Wilcox Lane.  Wifi hotspots are also available for checkout.

Are you accepting book or purse donations at this time?

We are not accepting book donations, but we are accepting gently-used or brand new high-end designer purse donations.  Please go to our Events Page for more information on purse donations.   We happily accept monetary donations to support library operations. Click here to make a donation.
