2nd WOOD LIBRARY MINI GOLF FUNDRAISER MEETS GOAL

Nearly $15,000 raised to support Wood Library’s diverse programs

(Canandaigua, NY) – More than 400 participants playing 18 holes of mini golf. Conservatively, tnat’s an average of four strokes per hole. That multiplies out to at least 36,000 putts! And, every one a hole-in-one of fun. That’s the tally for the second Wood Library Mini Golf fundraiser, held Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, 2023. Curving and coiling over three floors of the library, with obstacles like bowling pins, an airport runway, zebra legs, plastic houses, cardboard stacking blocks, and even a tricky-to-traverse tunnel under the Ontario County Courthouse, the course once again proved a big hit with players of all ages. Best of all, the library netted just under $15,000 to bolster its broad selection of services for the remainder of 2023.

“I am so pleased the community came out in such a big way to support this fun event!” says Wood Library Director Jenny Goodemote.  “Everyone who participated had a hand in its success — sponsors, donors, players, and volunteers. Even after the event, the library is still abuzz with excitement. Look for Mini Golf again in 2024!”

Besides the 18-hole course, kids (and their parents) especially thrilled to the chance to win a stuffed animal by making a hole-in-one at the 19th hole. “Yes, the 19th was a little easier shot,” laughs Goodemote, “but those prizes put a happy exclamation point at the very end!”

New this year, and another big hit, was the three-hole “Toddler’s Course” set up in the library’s lobby area. Creatively decorated by hole sponsors, the Toddler Course was an eye-catching welcome to all who attended.

The People’s Choice Award for Best Hole went to the Rochester Air Center. It featured runway lights and a plane on final descent. Mitchell Pierson Jr. Inc. Realtors was chosen for the Trustees’ Choice Award.

Sam Viggiani, owner of Mini-Golf Presenting Sponsor Uber Lawns & Landscape was enthusiastic, too. “It’s wonderful to be in a position to support a great organization such as Wood Library. Many of the company’s team members (including myself) have participated in and benefited from the library’s numerous services and programs and we are simply grateful to be given an opportunity to give back to the library. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”

Participants and families also enjoyed getting their “foursome” photos taken by Hype Booth and bidding on a great selection of silent auction items, like an autographed Buffalo Bills jersey and football, scuba diving lessons, an airplane ride over the Finger Lakes, paintings by local artists, or a weekend at MirBeau, as well as a selection of wonderful gift baskets.

The Wood Library Board of Trustees and staff are grateful to the many volunteers who helped make the event run so smoothly, particularly the crack crew of Uber Lawns & Landscape, who helped install all the holes, and made sure they stood up to all the rigors of hundreds of golfers.

“The event is such a blast!” says Board of Trustees President Leslie Mast. “It’s very hard work for many people, but when you see all the smiling faces, the energy, the fun, and know that the event met our financial goal to support library programs, well, that is just a very good feeling! Our deepest thanks go to the many sponsors, listed below, who care so much about keeping Wood Library at the very core of our community.”
