Welcome Back!

We are very excited to reopen Wood Library as guidance around us changes. You will notice significant changes to the building as well as new policies and procedures that have been put into place to protect the health and safety of patrons and staff. If you are feeling unwell or if any member of your household is sick or in isolation, please consider using curbside pickup.  Please read the FAQs below for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to borrow library materials during the pandemic?

Working with approval from local health authorities and following guidance from the NYS Governor, we are taking all precautions to ensure that materials on our shelves and those that are returned to us are safe to be handled by the public.

What can I expect when visiting the library?

Patrons should stay home if they are sick or have had contact with someone who is sick. Masks are strongly encouraged.

What are the new hours and why are they different?

Income sources that support the library’s operating budget are uncertain at this time.  The library tax does not fully fund library operations and we are projecting lower than expected fundraising revenue.  We have made the difficult decision to reduce the hours the library is open to the public for the remainder of the year to help reduce costs.

Hours are:
Monday-Thursday – 9:00am-9:00pm
Friday – 10:00am-6:00pm
Saturday – 10:00am-5:00pm
Sunday – Closed

How many items can I check out at one time?

When checking out items inside the building, checkout limits remain the same as before:

Books/Magazines Unlimited*
DVDs/DVD series 10*
Music CDs 10*
Video Games 4
Audiobooks Unlimited*

*First time borrowers are limited to 6 items.

How many items can I put on hold at one time?

Patrons can place up to 10 holds on their account.

How long can I borrow items?

Borrowing periods and renewals have not changed:

Books 3 weeks 2 renewals*
New Books 2 weeks 1 renewal*
Magazines 3 weeks 2 renewals*
Audiobooks 3 weeks 2 renewals*
Music CDs 3 weeks 2 renewals*
Single Disc DVDs 1 week 1 renewal*
Multi-Disc DVDs 3 weeks 1 renewal*
Video Games 1 week 1 renewal*
Wifi Hotspots 1 week no renewals

*Renewals are allowed as specified unless the item is reserved for another person (“on hold”) in which case, it cannot be renewed.  Automatic renewals are still in effect.

Can I return items to the library?

Yes! Our outside book drops are open 24/7 or you may drop items off inside the library.

Is curbside pickup still available?

Yes!  Please visit our curbside checkout page for more information.

Can I apply for a library card?

There are a few options to gain access to library materials.  New York State residents can apply for a New York Public Library card through the SimplyE app—and gain access to digital resources, including e-books,audiobooks, databases, and more. You can also apply for a library card online by clicking here. You will receive a physical library card in the mail to access downloadable ebooks and audiobooks and other online resources.  Visit the library with a photo ID and document with mailing address listed within six months of receiving your card, and you can then check out materials from Wood Library too!

I need internet access. Can I use a computer?

Yes!  Computers are available for 60 minute time slots.  And remember, our wifi is still on!  Bring your device to the library and log on to the OWWL network.  The wifi signal is stronger closer to Wilcox Lane.  We also have public wifi hotspots available for loan.  Please inquire at the desk.

I need to print or fax a document. Are you accepting cash?

Yes, we are now accepting cash and take credit cards as well!

Are you accepting book or purse donations at this time?

We are not accepting book donations, but we are accepting gently-used or brand new high-end designer purse donations.  Please go to our Events Page for more information on purse donations.   We happily accept monetary donations to support library operations. Click here to make a donation.

I have a question? Is there anyone who can help me?

Yes!  Staff will be available anytime between 9:00am-9:00pm Monday through Thursday, 9:00am-6:00pm Friday, or 10:00am-5:00pm Saturday at 585-394-1381.  You can also reach us at woodlibrary@owwl.org or through our Facebook page.  Also, please check our website for the latest information.
