New Children’s Services Librarian!

Rachel Brill has been tapped to be the new Children’s Services Librarian. Her appointment to the full-time professional role will begin on February 28.

Rachel comes to Wood Library with professional experience and strong references from the Webster Public Library and Pittsford Community Library. She has worked in children’s services, provided reference services, created exciting programming for the public, and managed collections. She is expected to complete the requirements for a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Buffalo in May 2024.

“We are pleased to welcome Rachel to the Wood Library team and the Canandaigua community,” said Executive Director Jenny Goodemote in a prepared statement. “She is enthusiastic and motivated, has great ideas, and exhibits personal qualities that will serve her well in this important role.”

The Children’s Services Librarian is responsible for establishing a full complement of services and programs for young children, school-aged children, and families. She will maintain a vibrant collection of books and other materials that engage children in reading and learning, and connect with community partners to promote literacy, access to information, and equity.

Brill will fill the soon-to-be vacated position held by long-time Children’s Services Librarian Mary Ferris who will retire on March 15 after 50 years of service at Wood Library.
