ROC The Day
December 3, 2024
Wood Library is among hundreds of area non-profits that participate in ROCTheDay, a 24-hour regional fundraising effort for projects that make our communities stronger and help people thrive.
Our 2023 project was to raise $2,000 to construct a Little Free Farm Stand to be sited on library property from May through October. The farm stand is now operational, thanks to many generous donations from library supporters on November 28, 2023.
In 2024, we are asking library supporters to help us fund a mural in the children’s library to honor beloved librarian Mary Ferris.
When Mary Ferris retired from Wood Library in 2024 after 50 years of service to the community, library leaders bandied about ideas to honor and celebrate her distinguished career. “We settled on the idea of a mural in the children’s room that reflects Mary’s playful and creative approach to getting children excited about reading,” says Library Director Jenny Goodemote.
The mural, designed by Heather Heffernan, will be installed around a new doorway which patrons will pass through from the Children’s Room outside to the library’s new Outdoor Reading Garden. The mural will feature an array of wildlife, insects, and plants which ties in nicely with the reading garden.
Our fundraising goal is $8,000. Use this link to donate now. Thank you!
