True crime experts and enthusiasts to share tips and stories at Canandaigua library

October 11, 2024 (Canandaigua, NY) – Do you listen to true crime podcasts and watch whodunit documentaries?  Love a good mystery?  Learn to follow the trail from crime scene investigators and authors who have studied the trade.  Meet and swap stories with other true crime enthusiasts at Wood Library’s first True Crime Expo at 134 N Main St, Canandaigua, on Saturday, October 19, from 10:00AM to 4:30PM. 

Leading off the day at 10:00AM is a panel of true crime authors.  The panel will be moderated by Canandaigua author Sally Crosiar and feature:  Susan Ashline, author of Without a Prayer: The Death of Lucas Leonard and How One Church Became a Cult, Kevin Cotter, who wrote The Lurking Devil of Murder: The Crandall Case, and Jeff Schober, author of Bike Path Rapist: A Cop’s Firsthand Account Of Catching The Killer Who Terrorized A Community.

After a short break, Dr. Andrew Baranauskas, of SUNY Brockport, will share insights about Crime and Media at 11:00AM.  He has a new book out called The American City in Crime Films: Criminology and the Cinematic City.

The keynote address will be offered by WHEC-TV investigative reporter Jennifer Lewke at 12:30PM.   Lewke is an award-winning reporter who specializes in exposing government corruption, taxpayer waste, and consumer fraud in New York State.

The program will end with a live podcast by Wood Library’s very own true crime podcast hosts Jenny Goodemote and Carrie Magnan, and an interview with Retired Rochester Homicide Detective Mark Mariano.
