Painting by famed local artist Frederick D Crandall offered by Friends of Wood Library

An original watercolor painting by famed local artist F.D. Crandall found its way to Wood Library in 2023. Previously owned by a Massachusetts couple, the painting is a typical Crandall watercolor, featuring a serene view of shoreline along Canandaigua Lake. After the couple researched the artist and discovered his connection to Canandaigua, they decided to donate the painting to Wood Library with no strings attached.
With the help of Library Trustee Kathy Shay and a local framer, the painting has been restored and reframed. Its estimated value is $1,000. The Friends of Wood Library is offering the painting to the winner of a raffle which will run through December 7. Frederick Daniel Crandall was born in West Bloomfield, NY, in 1859. He reveled so much in the rolling hills and quiet streams of the area, that he committed himself to painting watercolors of the landscapes for most of his life. Though he rarely left the area, his watercolors became nationally known. Raffle tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Wood Library. Proceeds support the Friends of Wood Library for library programs.
