05 Nov Children’s Room Mural

When beloved children’s librarian Mary Ferris retired in 2024 after 50 years of service to the community, library leaders bandied about ideas to honor and celebrate her distinguished career. “We settled on the idea of a mural in the children’s room that reflects Mary’s playful and creative approach to getting children excited about reading,” says Library Director Jenny Goodemote. The mural, designed by Heather Heffernan, will be installed around a new doorway which patrons will pass through from the Children’s Room to the new Reading Garden. The mural will feature an array of wildlife, insects, and plants. Our fundraising goal for this project is $8,000. All donations to Wood Library on ROC The Day will be used to fund the mural.
