Children

Our Services

Collections include books for babies through 6th graders, book-and-toy sets, children’s music, DVD’s and books on CD.  Visit our Play Space with toys and activity centers to encourage a child’s creativity.  The Story Room is a perfect cozy setting for our story programs.  A wide variety of programs for children of all ages are offered.

Baker Park StoryWalk
Come to the park and enjoy our permanent StoryWalk. Each month we feature a different picture book for families to experience together. Park in the lot and follow the path clockwise around the story boards, reading the story as you walk the loop.

This month’s featured book is Hank’s Big Day by Evan Kuhlman. Hank is a pill bug with a busy life—for a pill bug, that is. His daily routine involves nibbling a dead leaf, climbing up a long stick, avoiding a skateboarder, and playing pretend with his best friend, a human girl named Amelia, in her backyard. And when day is done, Hank likes nothing better than returning home to his cozy rock.

We’d love to hear your comments or see a photo of your family reading the story! Send them to Miss Rachel (rbrill@owwl.org). Click here for a map to get to the park!

Grow a Reader: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten. Click here to download the registration form or sign up at the library to get your packet and first reading log.  Then just start enjoying books together!

Where’s Waldo in Canandaigua
all ages
Did you ever notice the life-size Waldo sitting on a shelf in the corner when you’ve been in our Children’s Room? He was made for a city festival a few years ago and has stayed at the library because he feels so comfortable here! We found a 3″ tall Waldo, took pictures of him out & about around Canandaigua and posted pictures of him on Facebook to see if people could figure out where he’d been – and even challenged people to take a picture of themselves taken in the same spot! If you missed his city trek, check our Facebook album and see if you can follow his path around the city!
