Congratulations to Lydia Huth for winning first place in the 2013 Jane Austen Short Story Contest!  The judges were impressed by Lydia’s ability to successfully adopt the epistolary style that interested Jane Austen in her early works of fiction.  Judges stated that this style provides a way of revealing intimate thoughts and details through private communications.  Lydia’s writing held detailed yet well balanced style and she reflects Jane Austen’s interest in the subtle actions of manners and civility.  The story inspires the reader’s curiosity about characters who are indirectly revealing their own motivations as they comment on the actions of others.

Great job, Lydia!
